You may not have heard the term “workplace bullying” before, but there is a good chance you’ve experienced it. According to research conducted in 2021, about 30% of Americans have been subject to bullying at work, about 19% have witnessed it, and about 49% have felt their work is affected by it. Despite the prevalence of this experience, most people who are targets of bullying by bosses or peers feel alone, guilty, and ashamed.
In her forthcoming book WALK AWAY TO WIN: A Playbook to Combat Workplace Bullying, Megan Carle aims to shine some light on this insidious and often invisible form of workplace violence. Workplace bullying usually isn’t even acknowledged as a distinct problem within a company’s culture; instead, it’s considered the cost of doing business with certain “difficult” people. But Carle shows that not only does bullying take an immense physical and mental toll on the people who are the targets, but on the colleagues who witness it, and the bottom lines of the companies that tolerate it.
