Sept 25th, 2024- Last night, Bedford Playhouse was proud to host a special screening of Sing Sing in partnership with Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA). The powerful film, based on a true story, follows Divine G (portrayed by Colman Domingo), a man wrongfully imprisoned at Sing Sing who discovers purpose through a prison theater group. The screening was followed by an insightful discussion featuring co-star and RTA alumnus, Clarence Maclin, who shared his personal journey and the profound impact that RTA has had on his life.
Founded right here in Bedford, RTA has transformed the lives of incarcerated individuals across the U.S. by using the arts as a tool for rehabilitation. Through theater, participants develop self-expression, confidence, and collaboration, breaking down the barriers that often define their identities. The discussion touched on the broader societal stereotypes surrounding incarcerated individuals and highlighted the importance of creating pathways for healing and change through art.
