Oct 11th, 2025 – Recently, the Playhouse hosted a screening of the acclaimed HBO documentary The Alabama Solution, followed by an engaging Q&A with Emmy Award-winning director Andrew Jarecki, moderated by Playhouse founder John Farr.
The film explores critical issues within the U.S. juvenile justice system, offering an unflinching look at how vulnerable youth are affected by systemic policies and decisions. Jarecki’s documentary combines investigative storytelling with deeply human perspectives, providing viewers with both a broad understanding of the subject and intimate portraits of the individuals involved.
Following the screening, Jarecki and Farr led a thoughtful conversation with the audience, discussing the inspiration behind the film, the challenges of documenting such a sensitive topic, and the broader societal implications of the issues explored. The Q&A offered attendees a rare opportunity to engage directly with the filmmaker and the Playhouse’s founder, deepening the impact of the documentary and sparking meaningful dialogue.
We are grateful to Andrew Jarecki for joining us for this important evening and for fostering a conversation that highlighted both the power of documentary filmmaking and the importance of community engagement.
