Feb. 1st, 2026 – Even in an era dominated by artificial intelligence and movie CGI, a great magic trick still has the power to astonish—and that was on full display during a lively, hands-on magic master class led by local Bedford semi-pro magician David Pogue.
Celebrating the release of a new edition of his beloved book Magic for Dummies, Pogue transformed the Playhouse Café into an intimate workshop of wonder for a 90-minute, joyfully interactive session. Guests learned a collection of impromptu street-magic tricks designed to be performed anytime, anywhere, with no special props or preparation required. Using everyday objects like forks, pencils, string, cards, and even smartphones, participants discovered just how easy it can be to create moments of genuine bafflement.
Drawing on more than 50 years of experience as a magician, Pogue blended instruction with storytelling, sharing insights from his long career performing at birthday parties, teaching magic in New York City, and authoring one of the most trusted how-to guides in the craft. All materials were provided, including cards, and copies of Magic for Dummies were available for purchase following the class.
The evening was a reminder that wonder doesn’t require special effects—just curiosity, a few everyday objects, and the joy of learning something delightfully unexpected. ✨
