Known around the world for his groundbreaking and Tony award winning choreography of Broadway’s The Lion King, Garth Fagan is widely acknowledged as the architect of a distinct new movement style and the man who transformed Rochester, NY into an incubator for world-class contemporary dance. He is the creator of over 100 works for theater and the concert stage and an inspired teacher. 

Griot New York  is a seminal, evening-length contemporary dance piece choreographed by Garth Fagan with a jazz score by Wynton Marsalas and set design by Martin Puryear.. It is a critically acclaimed, high-energy work merging modern, ballet, and Afro-Caribbean styles to explore urban life, and African-American history.
