Movie Club is a seasonal series with a rotating theme, each edition delving into a fresh cinematic focus. This inaugural series invites thought-provoking discussions through literary adaptations and films with ties to the Hudson Valley. For each installment, you’re encouraged (but not required) to read the book, join us for the screening, and stay for an engaging conversation led by educator Vic Messick.

Bill Moyers tells the story of the mighty Hudson River, whose 315-mile course travels from its source in the Adirondack Mountains to its outlet at New York harbor—and runs through so much of the nation’s history, literature, and art.

In a journey that alternates between the wonders of nature and the handiwork of man, Moyers examines both the beauty that attracted the Hudson River school painters and the potential that lured America’s early industrialists. Along the way, he draws on the insights and experiences of those whose lives have been inextricably linked with this American Eden and who have fought to make it a second-chance wilderness, a paradise lost and then regained.

In a broadcasting career spanning 40 years, journalist Bill Moyers has distinguished himself at PBS, NBC, CBS, and Newsday. His many honors include lifetime achievement Emmy^® and Peabody awards.
