Close to Home: Climate, Health and Hope
- Thu, Oct 1
Run Time: 150 min.
We know climate change is bad for the planet. But in what ways is it bad for our health? And how can we protect the places and people we love?
On October 1st, Emmy-winning journalist and author David Pogue will get the scoop from three experts on climate and health: a scientist who’s tracked the line from fossil fuels to cancer, a pediatrician who prioritizes protecting our children’s developing lungs from bad air quality, and an agroecologist who restores human health and soil through regenerative farming.
Our Climate-Health Experts:
- Dr. Sandra Steingraber is a biologist, author, lecturer, and Co-Founder of Concerned Health Professionals of NY (CHPNY) with a prolific career investigating the connection between cancer and the fracking of fossil fuels, including its impacts on childhood development.
- Jack Algiere is the founding farmer and Director of Agroecology at Stone Barns Center, where he specializes in regenerative organic agriculture and agroecosystem design, a system he shares through his internationally renowned advisory services and publications in The New York Times, NPR, and his own upcoming book, Seeding Hope.
- Dr. Amy Brown is a pediatric pulmonologist, professor of public health, and Assistant Director for the Children’s Environmental Health Center of the Hudson Valley, who has concentrated her work on protecting children from the impacts of degraded air quality.
It’s time for a conversation that will change the way you think about one of the defining issues of our time. Climate change is not just an environmental issue—it’s a public health crisis. Learn what we can do now to protect the health of our families, community, and planet.
