Apr 7, 2026 – We recently welcomed producer and Bedford resident Kevin Walsh for a special screening and discussion of The Way, Way Back, offering audiences an inside look at the making of the beloved indie comedy.
Following the screening, Walsh shared behind-the-scenes stories from the film’s production, as well as insights from his broader career in the industry. He reflected on working with Academy Award–winning writers and directors Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, and what it took to bring their heartfelt, humorous vision to life on screen.
The Way, Way Back tells the story of 14-year-old Duncan, played by Liam James, navigating an awkward summer vacation alongside his mother Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend Trent (Steve Carell), and Trent’s daughter Steph (Zoe Levin). Struggling to find his place, Duncan forms an unlikely friendship with Owen, the charismatic water park manager played by Sam Rockwell, setting the stage for a transformative summer of self-discovery.
The evening provided a unique opportunity for audiences to revisit this funny and poignant coming-of-age story while gaining a deeper appreciation for the creative process behind it. Walsh’s personal anecdotes and candid reflections made for an engaging and memorable discussion, highlighting the enduring charm and emotional resonance of the film.
