Dear Friends of the Bedford Playhouse,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am writing to share that Marie Scanlan has decided to step down as CEO of the Bedford Playhouse, home of the Clive Davis Arts Center, effective July 3, 2026.

During her tenure of over four years, Marie has helped guide the Playhouse through an important period of growth and renewed vitality. Her commitment to the mission, her focus on strengthening operations and financial discipline, her support for the Playhouse’s expanding programs, and the relationships she has built across the Playhouse community have contributed meaningfully to the organization’s success. That progress, and the vibrancy of the Playhouse today, will be an important part of her legacy.

The Board is grateful for Marie’s service and for the role she has played in strengthening the Playhouse and its place in the community.

We are very pleased to announce that the Board has appointed Daphne Viders to serve as Interim Executive Director effective July 3, 2026.

Since joining the organization in September 2025, Daphne has become an important member of the Playhouse leadership team. She has been deeply involved in fundraising, community engagement, donor relations, and has developed strong relationships with Board members, staff, volunteers, and supporters of the Playhouse. We have great confidence in her ability to provide steady and thoughtful leadership during this transition.

The Board believes the Playhouse is exceptionally well positioned for the future. Attendance is strong, community engagement continues to grow, and exciting plans are underway to further enhance the Playhouse experience for our patrons and supporters.

Over the coming months, the Board will undertake a thoughtful process to evaluate the organization’s long-term leadership needs. In the meantime, we are confident in Daphne’s capable stewardship, the support of a strong senior team, and the dedication of an exceptional staff as we continue to build on the Playhouse’s many successes.

The Playhouse benefits from an outstanding executive team, led by Dan Friedman, Artistic Director, whose vision and judgment have shaped the Playhouse’s film, music, and literary programming and helped establish its reputation as a vibrant cultural destination. Rounding out the team are Jennifer Pace, Development Officer, and Jennifer Funigiello, Manager of Marketing and Communications, as well as a talented and dedicated staff whose commitment and professionalism are central to the Playhouse’s success.

Please join me in thanking Marie for her dedication and contributions to the Playhouse and in welcoming Daphne to her new role.

With gratitude and optimism for the future,

Don Greenwald
Chairman, Board of Directors
Bedford Playhouse
